Emma’s Dad Died, but Big Brother won’t tell her..
May 24, 2007 on 6:17 pm | In Housemate Gossip, BB In the News, Emma | No CommentsA letter from Emma’s brother
DAY 34 09:50
Big Brother is aware of and understands many of the concerns the public has expressed upon learning the sad news of Housemate Emma’s father’s death. Emma’s family is appreciative of the care and support her fans have extended. However, this week’s media speculation is mostly uninformed, inaccurate and the cause of much distress to Emma’s family. Emma’s brother Matt has written asking that we help clarify the situation. His letter appears here…
Emma was aware of the possibility that our dads impending death may occur whilst she was in the Big Brother production. Our dad had been ill for a considerable amount of time and wasn’t taken from us suddenly; the family did have time to prepare themselves. We reassured Emma that, in the event that this did happen, grieving our dad’s death when she was released from Big Brother would be no less meaningful or significant than when he actually passed away.
I personally spent the last week of dad’s life by his side and one thing he was absolutely certain about was the fact that he didn’t want his death to impose either negatively or positively on Emma’s Big Brother experience.
He made us promise him that no-one would notify Emma of his death. He was adamant and clear in expressing this request. He also requested that his death remain private from the Big Brother ‘hype’ but unfortunately due to the indecency of the person who leaked the information to the media we have been unable to honor this wish.
Emma and I have maintained a close friendship for many years. We have previously and recently in ‘lock down’, discussed the possibility of dad’s death thoroughly. I can confirm with absolute confidence that Emma has prepared herself and her views have been considered in the family’s decision-making process.
People may cast their own views and opinions but these people are not privy to Emma and dad’s relationship. We as a family wouldn’t want to interfere with anyone else’s family affairs especially in their time of sadness so we’re stunned by the reaction of so many that have based their opinions on a total lack of knowledge of our family’s internal workings. As Emma’s family we know her very well and are confident we have made the right decision.
Our dad was extremely proud of Emma’s achievements so far on Big Brother. He would watch her each night proudly from his hospital bed heckling rivals and laughing at Emma’s wicked attitude and antics. Without you guys and this Big Brother experience he wouldn’t otherwise have had this opportunity and insight into his daughter’s life, thank you.
Rest assured that the family has made arrangements to postpone dad’s final service until Emma departs the house to ensure Emma is still given the opportunity to participate. As you are aware the funeral has already taken place however the family will reconvene with Emma to lay dads ashes to rest.
On behalf of Emma’s family including Tim [her partner], we sincerely thank the Big Brother production team for supporting and respecting our family’s decision. Our family is not familiar with all this media attention and we are extremely grateful and appreciative of Big Brother’s discretion and tact in dealing with this issue.
Regards
Matt (Emma’s brother)
| Not sure what I think about Big Brother not telling Emma that her father has died while she’s in the Big Brother house. He died of cancer and the funeral was on Monday.. apparantly they weren’t close and had only recently got back in contact about a month before the Big Brother house.. I’ll check my facts about all of this tomorrow when there is more reliable news about it…I think.. what’s more important.. a damn TV show..? But I also think.. if they weren’t that close.. then it may not be something she wants to deal with inside of the house .. and she’s already missed the funeral.. I dunno.. going to be interesting how the public treats her though knowing this..Here are the articles up around the net about it:

Hayley’s Gone.. Intruders Daniela & Laura Enter.. Aleisha B’day
May 22, 2007 on 11:29 pm | In Housemate Gossip, Videos, Aleisha, Andrew-Hayley, Daniela, Laura | No CommentsWell Hayley’s gone… hopefully now she can find happiness .. :)
Here’s her Goodbye Message to the House:
Loved the show tonight.. with Aleisha’s birthday and the intruders and Hayley, etc.. was one of the best nights to watch I reckon.
Big Brother gives the ultimate 21st gift to Aleisha.. a “message from home” from her loved ones, and some photos of her growing up..

Which made her cry.. and also got Travis and Zoran teary too..

Later on.. they party all night..

Like the 2 new ones, both seem like pretty nice people don’t ya think? Not the normal type of intruders.. these guys might even have a shot at winning Big Brother..

One of the Intruders (Laura) is related to Bree Amer.. (Friday Night Games), it is her dad’s cousins’ daughter (so Bree’s second cousin) and apparantly they’ve never met. Well there you go :) I couldn’t find her to take a snap, but then they showed her in the Spa talking to Nick.. boring lol

Hayley & Andrew were talking marriage in the house.. well, it was mostly Hayley.. wonder if she was hoping Andrew would propose to her on national TV? Didn’t happen tho..

Happy New Year Tasks
May 21, 2007 on 11:08 pm | In Housemate Gossip | No CommentsHappy New Year Tasks
This week BB has given the HMs an almost impossible task – keeping a New Year’s resolution for a week. Most of us only stick to our New Year’s resolutions for a couple of days before reverting to our old habits, but then most of us don’t have $50 000 on the line for keeping them.
This afternoon, BB had Nick read out a letter to his fellow HMs. Nick read, ”Housemates, Big Brother would like to wish you all a happy New Year! For this week’s Task, Big Brother is giving Housemates the chance to change and make a fresh start. Big Brother will issue each Housemate with a New Year’s resolution which they must act upon. To succeed in the Task, each Housemate needs to show strength and conviction and must not break their resolution for the duration of the Task.”
In front of the HMs were empty champagne bottles. Each HM randomly chose a bottle and read out the resolution that was inside. The HMs and their resolutions were as follows:
BB reminded the HMs that keeping a resolution ‘requires sacrifice, effort and perseverance.’ The HMs quickly got into their resolutions. Andrew had a chat with Hayley in the Chill Out Room while Billy convinced Aleisha to join him for a workout. Travis wasn’t looking forward to missing out on his evening’s pizza meal, but Jamie took a leadership role and suggested he might be the one to profit from Travis’s enforced generosity. Thomas quickly sorted out his belongings, selecting his 12 items for the week and handing in his other equipment to BB in the Diary Room. He told the other HMs he handed in his deodorant telling them, “Everyone feel free to stay away from me.”
Aleisha |
Aleisha: Resolved to believe in herself. To be successful in this task every time she passes through the Bedroom doorway in either direction, Aleisha must take a moment to stop and empower herself by repeating three times in a loud clear voice - “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better” |
Thomas |
Thomas: Resolved to be minimalist. To be successful in this task Thomas must choose only 12 personal items to use for the duration of the task, and get rid of everything else that he doesn’t use. He must declare these 12 items to Big Brother, and must deliver the remainder of his belongings to the Diary Room. |
Andrew |
Andrew: Resolved to be a better listener. To be successful in this task Andrew will have a one-one-one chat for 30 minutes in the Chill Out Room, with a different HM every day. |
Emma |
Emma: Resolved to learn a new skill everyday. To be successful in this task she must learn a new skill from a fellow Housemate every day |
Travis |
Travis: Resolved to be more generous and patient. To be successful in this task Travis will abstain from one meal per day and donate this meal to another HM |
Hayley |
Hayley: Resolved to make the house a better-looking place. To be successful in this task Hayley must make sure she is always looking well-groomed. Hayley must also give every Housemate a daily tip on how they can improve their overall appearance-focusing on either fashion, grooming or personal hygiene. |
Zoran |
Zoran: Resolved to be more entertaining. To be successful in this task Zoran must entertain the other HMs every evening after dinner for 15 minutes |
Jamie |
Jamie: Resolved to become a leader. To successfully pass this task Jamie must organise and create order in the BB House. |
Joel |
Joel: Resolved to be cleaner. To be successful in this task, Joel will no longer swear, and he must wash two different HMs’ feet every day. |
Rebecca |
Rebecca: Resolved to be more honest. To be successful in this task every night over dinner, Rebecca must share a new story about herself. |
Susannah |
Susannah: Resolved to be the happiest HM. To be successful in this task Susannah will start each day as if it’s the first day of the rest of her life. When she gets up in the morning the first thing Susannah has to do is go to the middle of the yard, look up to the heavens and scream twice, “I’m happy to be ALIVE, I’m the happiest Housemate ever”. For the rest of the day she must try to keep the other Housemates as happy as she is. |
Billy
|
Billy: Resolved to get fit and have an optimistic and healthy attitude towards life. To be successful in this task every day Billy must convince one other HM to exercise and workout with him for at least one hour. |
Nick |
Nick: Resolved to be more positive. To be successful in this task, whenever a fellow HM speaks to Nick, he must first acknowledge them with a cheerful greeting accompanied by a sincere smile and warm hug. |

Big Brother Week 4 Nominations
May 21, 2007 on 10:55 pm | In Housemate Gossip, Nominations | No CommentsThe Final Nominees for Eviction are:
ANDREW |
NICK |
REBECCA |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| Was Nick, Emma, and Rebecca, but Demet used her Power to Save Emma and put Andrew up. | ||
At the end of Nominations the three HMs up for Eviction were Nick, Emma and Rebecca, however after Demet waved her FNL wand - from the stage with Gretel - the final list of nominees were changed to - Nick, Andrew and Rebecca.
After BB announced Demet had just used her power and had altered the nominees, Hayley gave Andrew a knowing glance - both of them assuming Demet would’ve paid back Andrew’s nomination pick from the week before.
|
|
Aleisha Aleisha was also awarded one point for talking about nominations with Emma the night before. 2 points - Nick, for personality, because she thinks Nick is very demanding and negative, he didn’t do his chores properly and he’s very hot and cold. Aleisha also thinks he cracks it at little things. 1 point - Rebecca, for under the radar. Aleisha thinks Rebecca limits herself to conversations which won’t end in conflict, or to one-on-one conversations. |
|
|
Thomas 2 points- Aleisha - for telling Emma that I was talking about her behind her back, I felt it was constructive and pressure, but Aleisha didn’t voice it in that way. 1 - Emma - didn’t ask me about it, accused me of backstabbing. I put an effort in to get to know Emma better, but she slapped my hand away. |
|
|
Emma Before she could start, BB told Emma that he was awarding her one nomination point for alluding to who she was going to nominate the night before. 2 points - Rebecca, because Emma still doesn’t trust her and thinks she continues to contradict herself and her religious beliefs. 1 point - Susannah, because she thinks Susannah is here for a holiday and doesn’t pull her weight. Emma says she never helps out in the House. |
|
|
Travis 2 points - Nick, for under the radar. Travis said Nick told him he can’t be himself in here because he’s scared of being nominated. 1 point - Thomas, because he told Travis he was going to speak up and be himself, but he’s been a lot quieter this week. Travis thinks he’s flying low to stay out of the limelight and not be nominated. |
|
|
Andrew 2 points - Nick, because Andrew thinks he’s been aggressive and negative. He said he’s taken a lot of issues out on others, like snapping at him about rationing the toilet paper. 1 point - Susannah, because he thinks if she doesn’t have a chore Susannah doesn’t lift a finger. |
|
|
Zoran 2 points - Rebecca, for under the radar. Zoran thinks she evades conflict and is deliberating avoiding people being able to have an opinion about her. 1 point - Nick, because last night he did something very inappropriate and then announced it to everyone, which Zoran found offensive. |
|
|
Jamie 2 points - Emma, because Jamie thinks she has no interest in a friendship and will never enter into a conversation with him. He’ll only get one word answers from her and she’ll even walk off mid-conversation - he’s frustrated. 1 point - Nick, because Jamie doesn’t trust him. He’s spoken to Jamie about alliances and he doesn’t want to spend time with someone who is there for the game, not just for fun. |
|
|
Joel 2 points - Jamie, for being too serious, especially regarding the Starbursts pranks. He thinks Jamie makes his time in the House less fun. 1 point - Nick, for under the radar. Joel said Nick has told him twice that usually he is an arrogant and confident, but he’s afraid to be that guy in the House because he doesn’t want to be evicted. |
|
|
Rebecca 2 points - Emma, because she doesn’t think Emma likes her or has any intention of getting to know her. 1 point - Joel, for under the radar. Rebecca thinks he has a lot of personality but that’s all everyone sees of him and he’s actually covering up and hiding himself. |
|
|
Susannah 2 points - Emma, because Susannah felt betrayed over a can of V which went missing from her drawer. She felt made a fool of by Emma, when she thought she was her friend. 1 point - Jamie, because he’s talking too much and was interrupting Susannah all day which she found rude. He also dive bombed into the pool and splashed her. |
|
|
Billy 2 points - Susannah, Billy is not impressed with her lack of contribution to the House. He thinks she spends all her time in the sun and not helping out. 1 point - Rebecca, for personality, because she takes offense if he doesn’t spend time with her and at times seems overbearing if she wants to play games and no one else wants to. |
|
|
Nick 2 points - Joel, for being the cause of too many fines on Saturday night. Nick also thinks Joel hides behind his voices and pranks, and is not funny only annoying. He also thinks Joel talks over top of him and makes him feel unimportant and uninvolved. 1 point - Emma, for not making an effort to be friends with him. Nick thinks Emma is selfish, rude and inconsiderate. |

Hayley’s going home
Andrew and Hayley survived their mission to keep their relationship a secret, but tonight Big Brother reminded them who was boss and told the unhappy HMs that one of them was going home.
In no uncertain terms, Big Brother announced to the Housemates that it was time to go.
“Having a relationship in the House gives you a powerful advantage,” he began as a worried look spread across their faces. “The longer you stay together in the House, the greater that advantage,” he continued.
“Therefore, Big Brother has decided that one of you must go.”
The two were clearly upset. “Tonight?” Hayley asked.
“Listen carefully,” Big Brother said. “You entered knowing that one of you could be removed at any time. That time will come… this week.”
“However, Big Brother is giving you the choice. Who stays and who goes is up to you. Once you make your decision, you cannot change your minds.”
“OK,” Hayley said nodding. “Hayley, Andrew, you must make your decision now,” Big Brother added.
Shocked, Andrew asked, “How long have we got Big Brother?” Big Brother was blunt. “30 seconds.”
Hayley and Andrew were speechless - they didn’t know what to do. Andrew tried at first to convince Hayley he should go, but his girlfriend had the final word. “You’d be OK here without me, I’ll struggle,” she argued.
“You’ve got to do it,” Hayley continued. “I’m going, you’ve got no choice,” she remained firm. Andrew just shook his head in silence, but didn’t resist Hayley’s decision.
When BB asked them what they’d decided, Hayley answered “I’m going to go Big Brother.” But BB wasn’t satisfied just to hear from Hayley - he also asked Andrew for his opinion. Andrew paused, which made Hayley beg him a couple of times, “please, please” before he reluctantly agreed to let her go.
BB answered them straight away, “The decision is final, return to the lounge and do not discuss this with anyone.”
Visibly shaken Andrew took a huge breath as he walked out to the lounge. Hayley appeared to be a lot more together. After they were seated BB made an announcement to all the HMs. “As you know Hayley and Andrew entered the House as a secret couple. What you don’t know is that they went in knowing that BB could remove one of them at any time.”
Gasps of disbelief were uttered around the lounge, before BB continued, “Hayley and Andrew have made the decision about who will go. One of them will go this week.” BB then asked the couple to tell their fellow HMs which one of them was going to leave.
Without speaking Hayley threw her hand up in the air. “No way,” Travis blurted out, joined by a chorus of other shocked HMs.
The news was too much for Andrew and he started to cry on the lounge. Hayley gave him a big hug and the other HMs tried to comfort him. “Oh Andrew I’m so sorry,” Susannah told him.
“You guys have to look after him, OK,” Hayley replied.
BB then informed the HMs that he will decide when Hayley leaves and until then she can not nominate or be nominated. (She will go tomorrow night). This week will be the first time Andrew has nominated on his own. BB also told them Nick will be able to nominate and be nominated.
